Lyrics that Rock : Shape of my Heart by Sting

by malik on Oct.31, 2007, under music

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn’t play for the money he wins
He doesn’t play for respect
He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that’s not the shape of my heart

With an excellent guitar riff and amazing lyrics, Sting’s “Shape of my Heart” tells the tale of a gambler who plays not for the money, but for some logic in the entropy of luck; while at the same time the front he puts up is costing his relationship. (continue reading…)

Lyrics that Rock : N.Y. State of Mind by Nas

by malik on Oct.24, 2007, under music

I’m takin rappers to a new plateau, through rap slow
My rhymin is a vitamin, Hell without a capsule
The smooth criminal on beat breaks
Never put me in your box if your shit eats tapes
The city never sleeps, full of villians and creeps
That’s where I learned to do my hustle had to scuffle with freaks
I’ma addict for sneakers, twenties of buddah and bitches with beepers
In the streets I can greet ya, about blunts I teach ya
Inhale deep like the words of my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
I lay puzzle as I backtrack to earlier times
Nothing’s equivalent, to the new york state of mind

The second track in one of the most influential rap albums ever Illmatic, Nas spits bars on life in the biggest housing complex in New York City. (continue reading…)

DRM Free MP3′s at AmazonMP3.com

by lostofficehero on Oct.18, 2007, under music

Amazon.com is the latest to jump on board the digital music bandwagon with AmazonMP3.com. I actually think they are headed in the right direction here – 256K MP3′s with no DRM (Digital Rights Management). It’s basically the stuff you can download from [insert P2P/Torrent client of choice here], except that it’s legal, and you pay for it – $.89-$.99/song. You do have to download their software, which claims to put the music directly into your iTunes or Windows Media Player – so it’s fairly easy to get the tunes on your iPod/Zen/phone/whatever. The library isn’t as extensive as some of the others out there, but I’m sure that the more people jump on board, the more artists and labels will also.

Here’s a few random albums that you might want to check out:

Lyrics That Rock: As The World Turns

by lostofficehero on Oct.17, 2007, under music

They never should’ve booted me out of reform school
Deformed fool, takin’ a shit in a warm pool
They threw me out the Ramada Inn
I said it wasn’t me, I got a twin (Oh my god its you! Not again!)
It all started when my mother took my bike away
Cuz I murdered my guinea pig and stuck him in the microwave
After that, It was straight to the 40 ouncers
Slappin teachers, and jackin off in front of my counselors

Eminem gets my vote for the Rappers Hall of Fame because he can do what so few rappers can: tell a story and deliver lyrics on point. It’s hard to believe that The Slim Shady LP came out in 1999. It’s also hard not to laugh and shake your head while you’re listening to the lyrics of “As The World Turns” – just one of the many fantastic tracks off of Eminem’s debut album. (continue reading…)

Review: Radiohead – In Rainbows

by malik on Oct.16, 2007, under music

In RainbowsBrand Loyalty is a wonderful thing for a company. It creates a sentimental value and a great sense of attachment. The consumer in return is rewarded with familiarity, but at a supposed higher monetary cost. The consumer is also willing to forfeit another, quite possibly better product, choosing to stay with the known rather than venture the unknown. On their seventh proper studio release, In Rainbows, Radiohead has created perhaps their most humanizing effort since The Bends. (continue reading…)
