To all of our loyal readers, we apologize for the slow loading time we were experiencing earlier today (or was it no-loading time?). It was due to a script on the site that is hosted by Amazon.com. That script has been removed, so things should be back to normal. It’s just that you won’t get those wonderful links in all of our posts that point to Amazon.com. So we may lose a few bucks. Oh well. As long as the world knows that Kim Kardashian is Scoobs’ Babe of the Week and that the Red Sox are World Champs and that Peter Gammons hates A-Rod, it was all worth it.

….because I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance by signing up on GEICO.com (props to Haaris for the tip). I mean, seriously, I was paying close to 4 grand a year for 2 cars – now I’m paying $1500. I used to have GEICO and I held a grudge against them for failing to cover one of my claims (somebody stole the seats from my convertible – yes, they stole the seats), but now that money is important to me again, I’ll just have to deal with the service I get from them.

Here are some tips for savings, though:

- The less mileage you put on the car, the less your premium would be. For example, I drive 1 mile to the train station, so that’s under 5,000 miles a year – big savings.
- Obviously, a clean driving record is important, but also a good credit rating will help keep your rate low.
- Take a defensive driving course – it can save you up to 10%
- Consolidate your homeowners insurance as well as any other cars you might have into one policy, you get discounts for that.
-ABS, Airbags, Anti-theft systems, etc. all will help keep the rate lower.

That said, I hate insurance companies – all of them. It’s the biggest scam in the world….until you need them. But even when you do, they are a pain in the ass and then they raise your rates. I can go on forever about this, but I won’t. Anyone else out there is welcome to hate, though.

Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February.

Here’s an idea for an app for the iPhone: transform it into a device that works on the Verizon network. Yeah, I’d like that.

Churrascaria’s are what I hope heaven will be like. Since I probably won’t enter the gates upstairs, I’ll have to continue to visit this carnivore’s paradise on Park Avenue and 25th street. The only reason I had been trying to go to Porcão in NYC is because Malik, the Firefighter and I had gone to the one in Rio two summers ago. I was curious as to how the food at the NYC location would fare compared to the mother ship in Rio. Some of the reviews I had read online didn’t give Porcão much of a chance. Well, I did. And I’m glad I did – it was a fantastic experience.

A group of six was not let down by the non-stop beef action brought on by flipping the “I want to eat” card to it’s green side. We saw at least ten different cuts of beef along with a couple of varieties of chicken – all in about a 15 minute span. It got to the point where I wasn’t able to eat my food as fast as it was landing on my plate. That’s when I realized, I need to flip the card to red after each serving of fresh carved meat, devour it, then flip the card back to green when I’m ready for more. The salad bar wasn’t fantastic, but then again, why would you go there to eat salad? They supplied each table with several side dishes – fries, fried banana’s, mashed potatoes. Nothing spectacular there. The beef. The beef was all fantastic. Some might find it to be a bit salty, however, with enough water, it was fine for me. The prime rib with cheese was phenomenal, the shish kebab’s were also very tasty. The skirt steak was extremely flavorful and the sirloin was decent. Everything else is just a blur.

What was the damage? $50/head plus drinks and dessert. We left no room for dessert, although the cart was very inviting. The service was good, although at times it seemed like a couple of the meat waiters became impatient with the novices. The atmosphere wasn’t spectacular – not even on a Saturday night. The bottom line is, we were never left waiting for food, it was tasty and we had a great time. If you want a taste of Rio or if you just like meat, drop by Porcão – you’ll be in heaven.
