Heroes Recap: The Line
October 29, 2007 – 10:57 pm by lostofficehero
Let’s start with Mr. Bennett. He’s in Odessa, Ukraine to visit an old friend - Ivan. This old friend was apparently an employee of the Company and he trained Bennett. He was also the one that dropped the subtle hints that, if you didn’t pay close attention, you would have missed. Hints like Bennett and Claude (the Invisible Man) were partners back in the day. References to other “special” characters - like the Liquid Man (is that what he really said?). The most telling of all was Bennett saying to Ivan “you know what I’m capable of.” What is Noah Bennett capable of?
Why was Bennett in the Ukraine? Ivan had the Isaac Mendez collection. Bennett was after it. And he got it. How? By threatening to erase Ivan’s memories by way of Mr. Haitian, of course. It was pure blackmail and a superb job of acting by both characters. That’s a rarity on this show. After Bennett gets the information that he needs, he shoots Ivan in the head. In between all of this, Bennett answers a call from Claire and puts on the caring daddy show. Brilliant!
Claire. She lied to daddy about being a cheerleader. Then she didn’t make the squad because the head cheerleader was a bitch. That’s a bit of a conundrum, huh? To get even with her, Claire and West devise a plan to humiliate her. The plan is for West to swoop in and capture Claire and then drop her to the ground so that she can get all mangled and look dead. Then when the cops show up, Claire walks in and pretends like nothing happened, the cops find booze on Miss Head Cheerleader and she’s kicked off the squad. Guess who replaces her? Claire Bear. It’s also worth noting that West deflected a question from Claire about who his parents are.
Down near the US border, Sylar is beginning to coerce Maya into helping him kill people. They get to the border and she uses her power to kill the border patrol. All the while, her brother is suspicious of Sylar/Gabrielle and they continuously argue about it. Sylar confesses his plan to kill Alejandro - too bad the poor kid can’t understand any English.
Back in ancient Japan, Hiro and Takezo find their way to rescue the Swordsmith, and as they are escaping, Hiro transports Yaeko into safety - leaving Takezo behind. They are transported into a garden where they confess their love for each other. Yaeko figured out that it wasn’t Takezo Kensai that was charming her the whole time, it was Hiro. They kiss, the kiss that changed time, I suppose, but Takezo catches them. Then he turns against them, helping the Japanese capture Yaeko and her father. I wonder - is Takezo White Beard? I mean, he is a white man who could grow a beard. And will Hiro be the one that defeats him? This story is still being told through the scrolls that Ando is reading in present day Japan.

June 18, 2008. That’s the day Peter transported himself to. He found himself in New York and it had been evacuated. It seems like it may have been due to “the virus.” We find out by way of next weeks trailer that 93% of the population will be dead by then. But I am getting ahead of myself. Peter and his Irish girl go to Montreal as was painted by him last week - they find a note in that building from someone named Adam - the note warns of The Company and some huge catastrophe that is, once again, Peter’s responsibility. This seems to be the same Adam that Bob and the Company are trying to track down in present day New York.
That’s where Monica was taken by Suresh. New York. To the Company hospital where they did tests on her. Bob wanted to have Suresh inject her with a test vaccine to see if she loses her abilities, but Mohinder can’t get himself to do it. He yells at Bob and decides to quit - only to be talked back into staying with the Company - and assigned a partner: Nikki. Monica is sent back to New Orleans, but given everything she could possibly want: security, care, help and…an iPod with all kinds of how-to videos loaded onto it. Instant learning. She’s left with kind words from Bob - she’s a hero in a town that needs a lot of help. Bob is trying to play the HRG role from last season and he’s just not as good at it - but nice effort.
What do you think? How many clues were you able to catch? Who is Ivan’s “dead” daughter? Is it Kristen Bell’s character? Is Ivan her “Daddy”? What is Bob up to? And whose side is Mohinder really on? How much of what the Heroes are doing is a setup by The Company and how much is real? Who is Adam? And when do we find out who West really is?
