Heroes Season 2 Theories
by lostofficehero on Sep.27, 2007, under tv

With the second season of Heroes underway, let the theorizing begin! Episoide 1, “Four Months Later,” opened a whole new set of questions that fans with too much time on their hands (much like myself), can theorize about. Let’s dive right in…
Who’s the guy that killed Mr. Nakamura?
“Of all of them, I never expected it would be you.”
Was it really a guy? It was someone, or something, in a hooded sweatshirt. Is Mr. Nakamura even dead? Those are just some of the questions that spawn from that scene. Here are some thoughts:
If indeed Mr. Nakamura was killed, my guess is that he was killed by someone from his own generation of Heroes. Namely, Mrs. Petrelli. She knew where he was, and they had gotten into an argument earlier on that rooftop. She knew she was going to die as well, so maybe she thought that killing him would prevent her own death. To put her in a hooded sweatshirt might be a little bit of a stretch, but it would be a surprise – and that’s what they look to do.
Other potential attackers: Nathan Petrelli. Why Nathan? Well, remember the picture of Mr. Nakamura with the symbol on his face? Where did he find that picture? In the newspaper. The
newspaper Ando got for him. Ando was bumped in the street while carrying the newspaper by…Nathan “bearded” Petrelli (see screen cap to the left). Mrs. Petrelli also found a picture of herself posted outside of Nathan’s apartment. Looks like Mr. Wannabe Presidente was up to something…or at least that’s what they’ll have us believe and then let the cat out of the bag: Ando was the killer! Maybe he’s got a superpower too – one that lets him split into two, but only when wearing the hooded sweatshirt. Evil Ando did it! Or did he? Because there’s also one other possibility tying into my earlier theory about it having been one of the older generation heroes: Mr. Invisible! We haven’t seen him since early in season one. It’s early in season two, and there seem to be many parallels to season one (eclipse, into monologue by Suresh, cheerleaders, dorky boys, etc.) so maybe it’s him.
What’s makes Maya “special”? And her brother?
What we know is that she has the ability to kill a lot of people while being scared out of her wits and regretful about it. So, it’s a power that she can’t control well, but possibly also one that only arises in self defense. Here are some theories that are out there – not really my own, but they are pretty interesting.
Maya has the ability to infect people with an illness that instantly kills them (plague). Her brother is the antidote to that illness, and so he needs to stay by her side at all times. Or, she has the ability to scream at a decibel level that will make people’s brains explode. I don’t know, I think that her power – whatever it is, might not be as cool as some of the others. But that’s just my opinion.
What’s up with West?
No, not Kanye West. West the new guy. Or the guy who’s picking on/stalking the new girl in Costa Verde High. He can fly. So does that mean he’s Claire’s biological brother? Meaning he’s Nathan’s son. I say…no. Too obvious. What would be a better twist is if West was actually H.R.G.’s biological son, out of wedlock, of course. Now that would be awesome. But, I think West is hired by the Company. He already knows who Claire is and he’s spying on her. Remember, most people that are “special” still are shocked by their powers, West actually uses his powers openly. That means he’s already had a coming out, of sorts. With the help of the Company? Probably.
Nathan: “Peter, is that you?”
Nathan sees a burnt face when he looks in the mirror. Is it Peter’s reflection? It sure seems like it is. Or is that just guilt? Or is there more to it?
Clearly, Nathan Petrelli is going through difficult times. He never truly embraced his superpowers, but they seem to be growing on him. If Nathan truly was responsible for the death of Mr. Nakamura, then this reflection might be foreshadowing of him becoming a “bad guy” in the future, or even better, a conflicted good guy doing bad guy stuff for the wrong reasons. Complicated.
Peter’s Back!?
Yes he is. In Ireland. In a shipping container. Wearing the Helix pendant. With seemingly new powers to be able to shoot balls of fire or something like that. And he doesn’t know who he is. Or
does he? We just caught a glimpse of Peter, but that short sequence raised so many questions that probably won’t be answered until for some time. What we do know is that he’s alive, and that’s all that matters. My theory: Peter will ultimately become the scary monster that Molly has feared for so long. He is the only one capable of absorbing powers and, sooner or later, he’ll figure out how to use more than one power at once. When that does happen, will he start to abuse them? Will he be manipulated by his older brother into abusing them? Or will he be captured by The Company. Those are all possibilities stemming from just one episode of the second season.
I haven’t even gotten to Molly and what she’s been drawing in class or Hiro and his fun times in ancient Japan or the H.R.G./Suresh plan to bring down The Company. I’ll leave that up to ya’ll to ponder and discuss.
Til next week…
