The Rebuttal to Bobby’s Vick Post
by malik on Aug.25, 2007, under sports, whatever
According to the statement, Vick also was involved with the others in killing six to eight dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions in April. The dogs were executed by drowning or hanging.
“Vick agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts” of Vick and two of the co-defendants, Phillips and Peace, the statement said.
With all due respect to Bobby, it would’ve been nice if he did some research (i.e.: see timeline) on the matter before trying to justify the severity of one bad action against another. To compare the lost of human lives to animals is an extreme bad case of utilitarian calculus. One does not lessen the other. Genocide and War are man made instruments. Cite an example of a group of canines wrecking havoc on the worldly nations and you may have a point there. A human being who would deliberately torture and brutalize another living creature deserves no sympathy whatsoever. But Malik, you eat meat? Yeah, but (I hope) the cow didn’t take a bat to the face and hopefully the chickens weren’t stomped. For Vick, this isn’t a six year old smashing a goldfish. This is a grown man raising a killer dogs’ camp for the past five years. Five fuckin’ years. (continue reading…)
Rant: Michael Vick pleads guilty
by lostofficehero on Aug.24, 2007, under sports, whatever
Michael Vick has pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy. WTF?
People have explained this to me several times, but it still leaves me bewildered. We, as a society, care more about the welfare of dogs than we do of other people. Yes, I understand that we are an animal loving society, but we are also a cruel society.
Although I do agree that what he did was wrong, what I don’t agree with is the amount of fire he’s drawn for it. Let’s get things in perspective here people! If people are going to make such a big deal about dogs being killed for the sake of money (or for any reason at all), let’s not forget the humans that are being thrown at each other’s throats for the sake of money in Iraq. Let’s not forget the thousands of humans that have died in the various genocides all across the world. Let’s not forget the fact that hundreds of people die every day, and nobody cares. Nobody cares. Because death is a part of life. For humans, for animals, for all forms of life.
I must admit, that I, too, am sensitive to animal death, but only if I see it happen. For example, I wouldn’t be able to slit a chicken’s throat and then skin it and eat it. But that’s a part of everyday life for many people – even in America. So I can sit here and lash out at people for hating on Michale Vick, but to be honest, if I saw the dogfights, I might feel some sympathy for the dogs. But I still can’t justify federal conspiracy charges. No matter how hard I try.
That said, what still pisses me off is that people who speak up to support Michael Vick are getting heat also. Here’s a wake up call to every average dog-loving American: some people, and even some cultures, despise dogs as much as they despise, umm, Americans? (sorry, that was harsh). But really, dogs are not as high on the food chain as humans are, so let’s not put them up on so much of a pedestal. Yeah, Mike Vick should get his hands slapped for killing dogs, and maybe even some fines for organizing illegal gambling, but jail time? Give me a break. Federal charges of conspiracy? Get the eff outta here. He didn’t try to assassinate the president (no, that’s not wishful thinking on my part – or is it? No, definitely not). His boys whacked a few dogs. Get over it.
shackburger count: 15
by lostofficehero on Aug.24, 2007, under grub
And now the numbers are starting to get crooked. Weds evening with the coworkers, I had my 15th shackburger of the summer. Let’s do some math here, if I had 7 Shack Stacks (2 beef patties and one portobello mushroom pattie), I’d be around where I am right now with just shackburgers – in terms of patties consumed. Shit, I need to stop making excuses to make it sound better than it really is. I need to stop the burger consumption. Next summer, though
Signs of life at Shea

Although the Mets lost last night’s seesaw game to the Padres, I was happy to see some fist pumping and excitement from the team. Our “Los Mets” have had the knock on them this year for being too laid back and fairly boring. That’s why it was great to see Luis Castillo, Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado and Pedro Feliciano pump their fists after several good plays on the field last night. Yes, Billy Wagner’s blown save was deflating, and Aaron Heilman’s blown game was too reminiscent of the 2006 playoffs, but it’s a good reality check and wake up call for these guys that they lost two out of three to a playoff contender. Hopefully, they can continue to play like they mean it for the rest of the season. This loss was more fun to watch than most Mets wins this year. Welcome back, Los Mets.
Morrissey says No to $75 Million Smiths Reunion
by malik on Aug.23, 2007, under music

Morrissey confirmed today that he turned down $75 million from numerous promoters to do 50 concerts in 2008 or 2009 with the band’s guitarist Johnny Marr as The Smiths, putting to rest rumors of a possible reunion a la The Police, Genesis and, Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth.
The only stipulation was to play with Johnny Marr. It doesn’t even say Andy or Mike needed to be involved. Yet, Steven Patrick Morrissey still seems to have ill feelings towards his former bandmates. I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour, but heaven knows I’m miserable now.
Regardless if they ever tour again, The Smiths will always be apart of me.
Best. Band. Ever.
