Radioactive Man comes in at number three on our list. One very funny episode that most likely inspired a really bad emo band. Care to guess? Like the Scoutmaster said, “Don’t be afraid to use your nails, boys!” Plot Summary: It is decided that filming for the new Radioactive Man film will take place in Springfield. When there, the producers decide to cast a local child in the role of Fallout Boy. Many of Springfield’s children, including Bart and Milhouse, audition for the role, with the part eventually going to Milhouse. Meanwhile, the rest of the town, led by Mayor Quimby, attempts to milk the film’s creators for all the money they have. (continue reading…)

1993: Whitney Houston – “I Will Always Love You”
Ugh. You know it. From The Bodyguard soundtrack. If they didn’t play the song on every radio station every five minutes for the whole year, it might have been OK. Nah, it wouldn’t have been OK.

1991: Right Said Fred – “I’m Too Sexy”
I vaguely remember Steve Urkel singing this on an episode of Family Matters. The video is hilarious.

1992: Kris Kross – “Jump”
I’m not gonna front, I was jumpin’.

1991: Color Me Badd – “I Wanna Sex You Up”

The lead track off probably their best album Pinkerton, Tired of Sex is a tour de force with distorted guitar works and one of the few songs Rivers Cuomo actually screams. A song about having sex, but desiring to make love. He has a different girl for everyday of the week, but it’s an empty feeling and no matter how much sex he has it doesn’t turn into love, causing him much dismay. (continue reading…)

At Number Four is Lisa the Iconoclast. This episode introduced us to such fantastic words like “embiggens” and “cromulent.”
Plot Summary: Lisa finds a confession written by Jebediah Springfield revealing that he was a murderous pirate. Meanwhile, Homer replaces Flanders as the town crier during the Springfield Day parade. (continue reading…)

There are myriads of mentos spoofs on youtube. Mostly pretty awful. The best one happens also to be a good song released in 1996.
