Review: Spoon – Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
by malik on Jul.09, 2007, under music
Spoon’s last three albums have received universal acclaim and were loved by critics, so on their sixth studio album, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, why mess with a good thing? Britt Daniel continues his everyman approach to indie rock with the guitars and pianos intertwining, effortlessly causing your hips to move and lyrics that cut straight to the point. Spoon’s albums have always had an economical feel to them. It’s as if the band didn’t want to play longer than necessary or speak words that were redundant. That has created an air of mystery with people to over think their style. Missing on the new album are the quick burst short songs that were prevalent on Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight. Yet, with slightly longer tracks, the 10 songs clock in at a little bit more than 35 minutes. Standout tracks like “The Ghost of you Lingers” and “Finer Feelings” shows off their unpretentious, competent form. Spoon is extraordinary for the simple fact that they seemingly sound like an ordinary band. It’s one of their strengths. Almost if they’re saying take it easy and just enjoy the show. You might not go Ga Ga for it, but you’ll certainly enjoy this album.
