Kevin Garnett will wear a Celtics jersey
by malik on Jul.31, 2007, under sports

According to the Boston Globe, Kevin Garnett aka “The Big Ticket” aka “KG” aka “The Kid” aka “The Franchise” will be traded to the Boston Celtics for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, and two first-round picks.
Looks like Celtics GM Danny Ainge is betting the future for right now. Trading a bunch of 20-year olds for a few 30-somethings pretty much ends the youth movement up in Boston. Then again, if KG, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce can stay healthy, it might be worth it. Might.
Dumbass: Man claims to kill mom over Mets lost
by malik on Jul.31, 2007, under whatever
A Queens man who allegedly bludgeoned his mother to death with a barbell blamed the Mets for setting off his murderous rage, authorities said yesterday.
Michael Anthony, 26, was frustrated with the Mets’ 6-5 loss to the Washington Nationals in the second game of Saturday night’s doubleheader when he started arguing with his father, according to a statement he gave police.
Anthony told cops after his arrest for murdering Maria Fischman, 61, that he “was watching the Mets game and became enraged.”
“We started fighting and my mother jumped in,” he said, adding that she took a knife from the kitchen of the Fresh Meadows home. “I took the knife from her and it got stuck in her head.”
Fischman then fled to the bedroom, where Anthony said he thought she was going for a weapon in a dresser drawer. “I grabbed a weight from the top of the dresser, swung it, hit her and she fell to the floor,” Anthony said.
He was arraigned on murder, weapons and assault charges, ordered held without bail and faces up to 25 years in prison.
Just a sad and pathetic excuse. If you’re that upset, turn off the TV and take a walk. I’m a diehard fan, but that’s just ridiculous.
Luis Castillo traded to the Mets
by malik on Jul.31, 2007, under sports

Minnesota gets catcher Drew Butera, who will report to Double-A New Britain, and outfielder Dustin Martin, who will go to Class-A Fort Myers. The deal, which came together in less than 24 hours, was completed one day before the deadline for making trades without waivers.
Guess Omar’s not feeling the Gotay/Easley platoon at second base. Castillo was hitting .304 with 18 RBI and 54 runs. Some rumors before the deadline: Carlos Gomez for Eric Gagne? Mets to grab Jeff Conine from the Reds? The fellas at bobbysketch will have another Shackburger?
Pacman Jones will make it rain for TNA Wrestling
by malik on Jul.30, 2007, under sports, whatever

According to the Miami Herald, suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has agreed to sign with the Total Nonstop Action pro wrestling group.
I applaud Adam for finding new revenue streams and TNA Wrestling for giving him a much deserved 45th chance in life. I can’t wait to see Pacman’s finishing move. You know the one in which he comes to the ring, throws a bunch of singles on his opponent and then calls his bodyguard to shoot him. Yep, slightly better than a piledriver. Review: The Simpsons Movie
by malik on Jul.29, 2007, under movies

After 18 seasons and countless rumors, the gold-platinum standard of satirical television has finally made the leap to the big screen. Only the Simpsons can have an opening sequence mocking their faithful who has supported them all these years. The Simpsons Movie has a strong 25-minute opening start, a bit sluggish middle, and a quasi-competent resolute end. It had a long episodic feeling which wasn’t a knock on the movie, but a create to the well-written series. The movie’s plot is an impending environmental catastrophe and a pig that’s the tipping point. Yup, that’s it. You can make a case about environmental and religious ideology, but that’s a philosophical debate for those who need to chill a bit more in life. Putting the cynical moneymaking profit motive aside, the series would have not lasted this long and the movie wouldn’t had been made if it wasn’t for one important central point. It had to be funny. The level of such hilarity will be debated for years to come. (continue reading…)
