$206 alternative to the iPhone

I mean, really, all you need a phone for is to make phonecalls, right? And maybe send some text messages. That’s all I need, but for those of you that want everything in your pocket and still want to have some money left there as well, here is an alternative scenario to the iPhone:
Creative Zen Vision W – $256
30 GB Media Player with a nice wide screen. It won’t be bound to Apple’s DRM, so you can play your DivX videos, your MP3′s, whatever you want. The screen is fantastic, the battery life good but it is a tad more bulky than the iPod. You can also check out the Zen Vision M, which is smaller, but is fantastic for under $200 (sometimes Buy.com has it for as little as $175).
T-Mobile Dash – Make $50 (after rebate)
This Phone/Touchscreen PDA has everything you could ask for in a smartphone (if you want to do more than just make phonecalls and send txt messages). It’s got built in WiFi, 1.3 Megapixel Camera, Windows Mobile 5.0 (with Windows Media Player), runs on the T-Mobile EDGE network, has a touchscreen interface WITH a keyboard. Did I mention it’s better than FREE?
Total cost for 30GB Digital Media Player, PDA, Phone, Camera, Touchscreen, Bluetooth, etc. etc. etc.: $206
If you don’t want to spend up to $600 on an iPhone, and you don’t like the T-Moblie Dash, here are some other phones that actually give you money back (up to $75 in some cases) for buying the phone with a contract.
That all said, if the iPhone comes down to earth in affordability (I mean, I’d rather buy a 37″ LCD TV for $600), I’d become an Apple fanboy and pick one up. For now, though, my 10 GB 2nd gen iPod and Motorola E815 will do just fine
