Subway Series: A Win is Not Enough

by lostofficehero on Jun.16, 2007, under sports

Just because the Mets beat the Yankees 2-0 last night doesn’t mean they are out of the mess that they have found themselves in. They played just as bad as they have been playing over the past couple of weeks. Carlos Delgado struck out 4 times, Carlos Beltran failed to produce again, and the offense has just been flat. It’s great that the speedsters tried to create plays on the bases, but I just cannot be satisfied with what I am seeing from the Mets.

Willie needs to bench Delgado and Beltran for a couple of games so that they can get the kick in the ass that they need to start producing again. Put LoDuca back in the #2 hole and also, Willie, I am one of the biggest Julio Franco fans out there, but come on; don’t put him in against hard throwing righties (Clemens) – he can’t catch up.

The one decision I did agree with was to let Ollie go back out there in the 8th inning. I am all for letting the starters go as deep as they can – especially when the bullpen has been shoddy of late.

Great play by the rookie and a well pitched game by Ollie. Hopefully, this win is enough of a kick in the ass, but somehow, I feel it isn’t. Maybe that’s just the cautious Mets fan in me talking.
