Derek Lee’s Hit & Run “Brawl”

For those of you that saw the Cubs’ Derek Lee go after the Padres’ Chris Young, I wanted to point out the Lee started the fight and then hid behind Lou Piniella. Take a look at this video (at around 19 seconds) of the fight. He starts it, then it gets broken up and instead of go right after Young, Lee just runs behind Lou and pretends to be trying to get at his foe. Boo on Lee. If you’re gonna throw the first punch, then at least finish things up. Kick some ass, man. Don’t go running behind someone else.
Tough luck for Carlos Zambrano – no hitter through 8 and he loses the game 1-0. Man, if the Cubs are out of it at the trade deadline, Mr. Minaya better be visiting Chi Town.

You’re absolutely right. Young didn’t start it by hitting Lee where he broke his wrist last year, almost hitting Lee’s head. Young walking 6 feet off the mound towards Lee was just a friendly exchange, too. Give me a break.
Young baited Lee after hitting him. Lee shouldn’t have taken the bait, but both are equally guilty. The “he started it” finger pointing should stay in 2nd grade, but if you must, point at Peavy.
How would you feel if someone didn’t like your blog entry and wanted to take a bat to someone in your family to teach you a lesson?
