Recap: 2007 NBA Draft Event

by malik on Jun.29, 2007, under sports

Noah and Stern

Around the start time for the NBA Draft, there were torrential thunderstorms passing thru my neck of the woods and my DirecTV feed was about to collapse for good. Thankfully, after a few minutes of pixilation and the audio being out of sync, the feed held up in time for me to see Ole Man Oden shake the commissioner’s hand. (continue reading…)

Dell thinks Skinny Korean women make good laptop sellers

by malik on Jun.28, 2007, under whatever

Dell Girls

Trying to take some spotlight away from the inevitable monster known as the iPhone, Dell introduced new Inspiron notebooks in 8 colors and a new 13.3 inch notebook with 32GB SSD option. The interesting thing about the above photo is how exact it is to my office attire. The ladies wear colorful tops and skimpy bottoms, while I walk around the water cooler with my muscle shirt and 80s’ NBA shorts. For more photos, just click here.

Shocking: Portland will go with the Old Man

by malik on Jun.28, 2007, under sports

Oldman Oden

As reported on Yahoo this morning, the Portland Trailblazers will choose Greg Oden as the first player in the 2007 NBA Draft. If this news is shocking to you, then you’re easily shocked because Oden was considered the #1 pick two years ago when he was a junior in high school. He turns 56 next January. I’m just kidding Greg, 47.

Strippers can make anything fun (even golf!)

by lostofficehero on Jun.27, 2007, under whatever

Why didn’t I think of this? Strippers at a golf course to raise money for vets? Sounds good to me. Now just get some strippers in the office at work, and maybe some on the train during the commute home and we’ll be all set.

The quote below is from the Newsday story on this – I love all the double entendres here, and the fact that the C.R. Fanny’s Gentlemen’s Club owner’s name is Pouser.

Concerning the lap dances, Pouser said, ”I don’t know what’s illegal about that (lap dances). It’s not sex.” As for topless strippers, he said, ”I didn’t see any topless, but I wasn’t at every hole.” He said he only saw strippers sitting near tee boxes, teasing golfers and doing some lap dances.

$206 alternative to the iPhone

by lostofficehero on Jun.27, 2007, under whatever

I mean, really, all you need a phone for is to make phonecalls, right? And maybe send some text messages. That’s all I need, but for those of you that want everything in your pocket and still want to have some money left there as well, here is an alternative scenario to the iPhone:

Creative Zen Vision W – $256
Creative Zen W30 GB Media Player with a nice wide screen. It won’t be bound to Apple’s DRM, so you can play your DivX videos, your MP3′s, whatever you want. The screen is fantastic, the battery life good but it is a tad more bulky than the iPod. You can also check out the Zen Vision M, which is smaller, but is fantastic for under $200 (sometimes Buy.com has it for as little as $175).

+

T-Mobile Dash – Make $50 (after rebate)
T-Mobile DashThis Phone/Touchscreen PDA has everything you could ask for in a smartphone (if you want to do more than just make phonecalls and send txt messages). It’s got built in WiFi, 1.3 Megapixel Camera, Windows Mobile 5.0 (with Windows Media Player), runs on the T-Mobile EDGE network, has a touchscreen interface WITH a keyboard. Did I mention it’s better than FREE?

Total cost for 30GB Digital Media Player, PDA, Phone, Camera, Touchscreen, Bluetooth, etc. etc. etc.: $206

If you don’t want to spend up to $600 on an iPhone, and you don’t like the T-Moblie Dash, here are some other phones that actually give you money back (up to $75 in some cases) for buying the phone with a contract.

That all said, if the iPhone comes down to earth in affordability (I mean, I’d rather buy a 37″ LCD TV for $600), I’d become an Apple fanboy and pick one up. For now, though, my 10 GB 2nd gen iPod and Motorola E815 will do just fine :-)
