Lost Recap: Through The Looking Glass
May 24, 2007 – 12:34 am by lostofficeheroThe Parade gets to the radio tower and Naomi makes the call, but Locke shows up and kills her with a flying dagger! Whoa! I guess little Walt was a good motivator. Locke seems to have recovered from that bullet wound pretty well and he’s walking again. He tries to tell Jack not to make the call, but the phone is ringing. He threatens to kill Jack, but he can’t do it. Locke is convinced that they need to stay on the Island. Somebody finally picks up the phone and Jack talks to him. They made contact with the freight boat 80 miles offshore! They are going to be rescued! Cliffhanger? I think not.
This is when Lost just blew my mind. Absolutely, totally shocking. If the episode ended there, with some more answers, I would have been completely satisfied. But the writers had one more trick up their sleeve. I should have seen it coming, but I didn’t. Did you?
Flash back to Jack. He finally gets a hold of the person he has been trying to drunk call all night. He gets this person to meet up with him at the airport. When they get there, we find that it’s Kate. I’m sitting there thinking to myself, Kate? How did Jack know Kate? WTF? Then it hits me! We weren’t seeing flashbacks of Jack in this episode. We were seeing forward-flashes of Jack! They actually got off the Island and what we were seeing was Jack’s (miserable) life off the Island! So, in reality, the Island was the flashback and what we’ve been seeing in this episode is really present time!
Jack confesses to Kate, probably not for the first time, that it was a mistake for them to have gotten off the Island. He wants to go back. Apparently, Oceanic gave them “Golden Passes” and he uses them almost every weekend to fly, hoping that maybe he’ll crash again, and maybe he’ll end up on the Island. Maybe. Kate seems happy, and she is with someone. Sawyer? Jack is alone, and sad. And this is how it ends.
But who would have ever thought that they would get off the Island? If I were a good enough writer, words might be able to describe how good this show was, but I’m not, so I’ll just have to ask you to watch it. Just. Watch. It……Now!
