Worthless Baseball Card Collection

by scoobs on Apr.24, 2007, under whatever

Check out JoeSportsFan.com for a bunch of old baseball cards that sure do bring back memories.  Remember the days when you were a kid and thought these cards would be gold in the future?  If I could go back, I would smack myself over the head for believing in that crap.

Here’s Mariano Rivera’s ’95 card, it’s hilarious.

Help Wanted: 102K to move shrubs

by malik on Apr.24, 2007, under whatever

For those who are underpaid in the hour-intensive private sector, may I suggest a change to the public. 102K just to move shrubs and 54K to sleep in an automatic toll booth sounds great to me. And for Gus Danese, president of the Port Authority Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, who defended compensation levels by saying, “We’re being underpaid it should be more,” you’re so right Gus cause nothing keeps me up at night like knowing semi-drunk teenagers trying to ride the LIRR, PATH, and Metro North for free. You deserve your coins Gus.

Nice Sunday Afternoon at the Ballpark

shea sold out

A buddy and I decided to head over to Shea on Sunday, meet up at around 12 or so to grab tickets but I was surprised it was sold out when I got there. End of story? Nope, we decided to stick around and check out the hotties flaunting their assets. Great weather and hot women is always a good mix.

I gave bobby a call to see if he could get tickets online and this older gentleman approaches us and asked if we needed tickets. I looked at the tickets and they were 42 bucks each for box seats in loge. There was no way I was gonna spend that much on tickets but he said he only wanted 50 bucks for the two. Never to miss out out on a good deal, I took it. Though it still doesn’t beat the deal that I got when my brother and I were in Texas. We were going to see the Oakland Athletics vs Texas Rangers. I was standing at the box office about to get some upper deck tickets and this Asian dude offers me field box seats for 40 bucks each (they were 100 bucks face), I knocked it down to 50 for both. The seats were right behind the photographers booth next to the dugout. Now that was kickass! Yeah, I know I’m digressing.

Anyways, we got our seats and the old dude was there. We sat with him most of the game. His name was Jack Pascal, owner of a software company in midtown. I’m usually pretty bad with remembering names but this one was easy to remember.  Props to Jack for the tickets.

After the fifth inning concluded, something white was flying towards my way. Took me a couple seconds to realize that it was the Pepsi Party Patrol throwing out t-shirts. I got my hands on it but couldn’t hold on and it landed behind me. Damn. The old dude had one that hit him in the leg but he lost it to a kid at the same time. A couple seconds later I had another one come my way, and this time I got it. Yes! There was a little girl sitting next to me. Thought about giving to it to her but I was like Nah, screw it.

After Heilman gave up the 3-run shot in the eighth, my attention turned to these two hot Atlanta Braves fans in right field leather recliners. They were having a good time and dancing a lot which was cool. Jeff Francour, the Braves right-fielder also noticed, he threw them a ball in the ninth.

Here’s a couple of pics of my day.

All and all a good day ‘cept the Mets losing. We’ll get them down in Atlanta!

New York Orioles?

by scoobs on Apr.22, 2007, under whatever

I was reading Sporting News for the week of 4/23/07 and found this.  “Baltimore and Milwaukee, it should be noted, were two fo the eight original A.L. cities in 1901.  By 1903, both locales had been abandoned.  The Baltimore franchise moved to New York – the original Orioles eventually became the Yankees – and Milwaukee moved to St. Louis.”

I thought I was pretty knowledgeable with NY sports but surely didn’t know that the Yanks were the original Orioles.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard that factoid during Yanks telecast ever.  I guess they’re not too proud of that.
