Quick and Nimble, Shades of Keith with Franco at 1st Base

He won’t be an MVP, he won’t be an All-Star, he won’t win a Gold Glove, but Julio Franco deserves an award of some kind. He may be the best acquisition the Mets made, in terms of value, to help turn this team around. He was a big reason behind the breaking out of Carlos Beltran last year (when he pushed Carlos to respond to a curtain call). He’s a fatherly figure on the team for many, he’s a coach, he’s an example. Oh, and he can play too! Did you see that play he made to throw out the runner at third yesterday?! And then he followed up the next inning by fielding a hot shot at first and then sprinting to the bag. Keither Hernandez must have been proud. Baseball should have a bench player of the year award (do they?) and Julio Franco should win it every year.
