Lost Recap: D.O.C.

by lostofficehero on Apr.26, 2007, under tv

Lost is officially back on the map, no irony intended. You know that it’s a good show when you feel like you got punched in the stomach after the episode ends. This episode delivered punch after punch. First punch was the one eyed monster (aka Patchy) stumbling into the Desmond, Charlie, Jin, Hugo parade. Yes, the same dude who we all thought died a gruesome death when John Locke (wtf? where’s John Locke?) pushed him into the magnetic field force thingie. The three Losties and Desmond were trying to save Naomi’s life – she had been stabbed by a tree branch when she fell out of the sky when he popped up out of nowhere. Well not nowhere, Hugo had fired a flare gun accidentally. It turns out that Patchy was a medic for the Soviet Army and he offered to help, if the crew would let him go and not mention his livelihood to anyone. He saved her, I think, but he also lied to them about what she was saying. He claimed that she was speaking Italian and that he could understand her. She was speaking Portuguese and he had no idea what she was saying. I wonder what he was up to. Maybe he didn’t save her, but injected her with some kind of drug?

Meanwhile, Sun finds out about Juliet’s mission on the island. Juliet uses this to get Sun to take a sonogram and together, they find out that the baby was conceived on the island (DOC = Date Of Conception). This confirms that Jin really is the father (unless she slept with someone else on the Island), and it’s not the bald dude that she was banging back in Korea. Juliet also mentions that men have a 5 times higher sperm count on the Island than off it. She must have gotten around quite a bit. I always thought magnetic fields were bad for Willie?

In flashback-land, we learn that Jin was really a bastard, I mean, really. His mother was a ho (but not nappy headed). Turns out she was more than just a ho, she was a scammer who bribed Sun to keep her quiet about Jin’s family history. Nice work, mom (reminds me of a Biggie verse from the Ten Crack Commandments: “Your moms’ll set that ass up, properly gassed up/Hoodie to mask up, shit, for that fast buck/she be layin in the bushes to light that ass up”). I digress. Sun also learns that women who conceive on the Island end up dying. So basically, Sun learns that she’s screwed either way. Punch.

Zap back to the jungle and the Losties with Naomi. Mikhail (Patchy) tried to steal the phone that Naomi came to the Island with (supposedly looks like an iPhone), but Jin tracked him down, took the phone back and then they let him go. Mikhail did confirm that the Island has healing powers. He mentioned that Naomi would recover from her punctured lung in a day or so. Anyway, as soon as Patchy leaves, Naomi start to talk….in English no less. Hurley tells her that they are survivors from Oceanic Flight 815 and she says that’s impossible. They found the plane and there were no survivors. They all died. Knockout punch!

Now I get to theorize. Or just scratch my head (no, not that one). Oh, I forgot to mention that Juliet leaves a recording for Ben confirming for him that Sun is pregnant, she did conceive on the Island and that she hates him. Oh, she turned off the recorder before saying “I hate you.” So Jules is a bit conflicted. It seems like everyone is out for their own good. They all want to get off the Island, but they are willing to sacrifice the others to do it. So maybe in theory, everyone is “an other.”

Also, if Ben wants to continue this research so bad, why not force these people to bang each other as often as possible? I mean they kinda know about Kate and Sawyer, so that’s a start. Let’s turn this into one big sexytime party! Once again, I digress. So it looks like people can escape death on the Island, but not everyone. I wonder who else will come back from the dead? Maybe Nikki and Paulo? Also, that phone had some kind of significance to it. Mickey tried to steal it. He might have wanted to use it to replace the uplink station that John blew up. John likes blowing things up. Where is John? OK, I’m rambling now, but I’ll leave you with one thought:

Can Desmond be trusted? What if he is part of Ben’s plan? He wasn’t on Oceanic 815. He let Mikhail go. Maybe his story is the longest con of all. He seems to be the character that most of the viewers trust more than anyone else. He’s the guy who has done no wrong in the past, other than be a coward. If I were the Lost writers, I’d see this as the perfect setup to a twist. Dontcha think?
