Review: Fast Food Nation

Sometimes books are adapted into movies and they work. This one sure didn’t.

Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser was paced well and gave us an insight into the mechanizations of the fast food industry but I found the movie’s storyline slow and plodding and really going nowhere. Richard Linklater, known for directing some decent movies like Dazed and Confused and A Scanner Darkly, fails to give a good narrative on this one. It is slowed by the many subplots within the movie. The main storyline is from the perspective of a marketing executive trying to find how shit (feces, poop, crap, you get the picture) got into the meat at the main factory. Then you have the perspective of the illegal immigrants from Mexico trying make a living in said factory. And lastly from the perspective of a teenage fast food worker.

The ensemble cast in the movie does a decent job but there’s nothing noteworthy. Though I did chuckle a bit seeing Avril Lavigne playing an activist.

If you had a choice between seeing this film or Supersize Me, I would definitely go with Supersize Me. BOTTOM LINE: Ignore It
